Psychologist Lisa Saponaro discusses stigma related to getting treatment for mental health problems. While most of us experience emotional, social, or behavioral problems at some point in our lives, there is significant stigma attached to seeking help from mental health professionals. Telling someone that your in therapy or attending counseling can be embarrassing and often leads people away from seeking much needed help. Psychotherapy as been demonstrated as the most effective form of treatment for depression, yet more individuals take anit-depressants than seek cognitive-behavioral therapy or other forms of therapy that works.
