DBT for BPD
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was developed specifically to treat people suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
As DBT specialists, we have successfully treated hundreds of BPD patients from all over the UK, primarily via our online group therapy sessions held via Zoom on a weekly basis. If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of DBT for BPD, you will find some additional details below. To speak to a member of our team about the therapy options we provide please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by phone or by email.
DBT for BPD, Delivered in an Online Group Setting
In common with many other experienced therapists, we have found DBT to be most effective when delivered in small groups. For this reason, we treat the majority of patients in small online Zoom groups, which meet every week at the same time. During these weekly sessions, each of the 4 core DBT modules is covered in detail, as patients are taught new skills and coping techniques that they can immediately apply in their daily lives.
Mindfulness – The first module in our DBT for BPD focuses on mindfulness practices. By staying in the moment, patients are able to observe their emotions more objectively and choose more appropriate responses when dealing with potentially stressful situations.
Distress Tolerance – Even when employing mindfulness techniques, patients may still encounter situations that challenge their ability to remain in control, leading to extremes of emotional deregulation. Module 2 is devoted to learning techniques and strategies for coping with these extremes.
Emotional Regulation – Understanding emotions and learning how to decrease their intensity is the main focus of Module 3. At the end of this module, participants should be familiar with a variety of different emotional regulation methods and know when each one is best employed.
Interpersonal Effectiveness – Learning how to let other people know what you would like from your relationships with them is of vital importance if you suffer with BPD, as is learning how to set boundaries in these relationships. Module 4 covers these skills in depth.
