As you work your way through each of the 4 modules, supported every step of the way by a sympathetic counsellor, you will learn the following key skills:

  • How to Manage Your Emotions – The main focus of the Emotional Regulation module is on controlling your emotions: developing a more balanced way of dealing with mood swings and emotions that affect you on a daily basis.
  • Living in the Now – The Mindfulness module teaches you how to live in the moment, using mindfulness techniques to combat distress and stress.
  • Maintaining Healthy Relationships with Others – After completing the Interpersonal Effectiveness module, you will find it easier to enjoy healthy relationships with the people you share your life with. You will also find it easier to ask for and get what you need from those around you.
  • Cope with Distress – The purpose of the Distress Tolerance module is to equip you with the skills you need to cope with distressing situations and the emotions they trigger.

By the time you have completed every module in your programme, you should be better able to manage the ups and downs of daily life and to deal with potentially stressful situations in a calm, controlled manner.

I have completed 2 modules of the DBT programme so far and I can honestly say it has honestly changed my life. I am not a stranger to therapy. 2 years ago I started general psychotherapy following the birth of my 4th child as I developed what I thought was PND. I also had a volatile relationship. Because of my personal circumstances, things progressively got worse. When I started the DBT programme I was lost, angry, hopeless and saw this as my last chance to solve some crisis of mine. 2 modules in, I feel refreshed and optimistic. I understand myself more and get boundaries. I am more productive and for the first time in a long while I can actually say I am happy. I was feeling insecure, anxious and depressed. I have joined the DBT sessions. I found it so helpful and effective. Before DBT, l wasn’t aware of the skills. I've been working on my DBT skills with Jason for the past 9 months. In that time I have learnt enough repair damaged relationships with family, to begin to curb my unhealthy 'problem behaviours' and to start to build back up my self esteem and work on treating myself with kindness and compassion.
