DBT Skills Group
In a DBT skills group, you will learn how to manage your emotions, thoughts and feelings more effectively, using proven techniques that have helped thousands of others with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
Online DBT Skills Group
We offer full Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programmes over Zoom, teaching small groups how to handle stress, how to control the way they react to real-life situations and how to maintain healthy relationships, both with themselves and with friends and family. If you would like to join one of our groups, we invite you to take an initial assessment first, so we can accurately diagnose your condition. Contact us now to get started.
What You Will Learn in a DBT Skills Group
During our weekly skills group meetings, patients are guided through the 4 core modules of DBT, all of which are designed to help you learn new coping skills and strategies.
- Mindfulness – Studies have shown that people who practise mindfulness are better able to handle stressful situations and to respond in positive, constructive ways to potentially distressing events. Once you feel more grounded, you should find it easier to deal with the problems you encounter on a daily basis.
- Emotional Regulation – In this module, you will learn how to regulate your emotions more effectively. By observing and identifying the emotions you experience in certain situations, you can understand more easily what is happening to you and why. The more you understand what is happening, the easier it is to control your emotions.
- Distress Tolerance – Many patients with BPD sometimes experience extreme emotional reactions to other people, events and even just words that are spoken. In the Distress Tolerance module, you will learn how to manage these extreme feelings and how to neutralise the negative reactions that often occur as a result.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness – Learning how to set boundaries in relationships and how to ask for the things you need from those closest to you is the focus of this module. Developing new and more effective interpersonal skills is a key step in reducing the possibility of distressing incidents when communicating with others.
