Starting Your DBT Therapy in Ireland
Once we receive your request for an assessment, we should be able to set up an online meeting within 24 hours, during which we can determine if DBT is the right option for you. A fully qualified and experienced therapist will evaluate your symptoms, answer any questions you may have about DBT and discuss the treatment options currently available to patients in Ireland.
If DBT is the right choice for you, we can then arrange for you to enrol in the next available course. Each group only has around 6-8 patients so spaces are naturally limited but with new groups starting on a regular basis, you should not have long to wait before you can get started on your DBT course.
How Our DBT Therapy in Ireland Works
Each DBT course for adults covers all 4 core modules of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, spread over a period of 30 weeks. We also offer courses designed specifically for adolescents, which are delivered in 3 x 16-week blocks, making a total of 48 weeks. However, not every patient will need to complete all 3 blocks: after each cycle of treatment has been completed, we review the progress that has been made and discuss future treatment options with patients and their families. In some cases, 2 cycles of treatment are enough to help adolescent BPD sufferers overcome the challenges they face on a daily basis.
Does DBT Therapy in Ireland Work for Everyone with BPD?
Not every patient responds in the same way and everybody’s circumstances are unique so it would be misleading to claim that DBT therapy works for every single person. However, studies have shown that over three-quarters of patients who undergo DBT therapy make such good progress during their treatment that by the time they have completed a full course, they no longer meet the established criteria for a BPD diagnosis.
