There have been so many days (sometimes multiple times a day), I just needed to hear “you are going to be okay” or “this won’t last forever.” One of the most frustrating aspects for ourselves and our loved ones in this process is that reassurance doesn’t stick. Every other thing seems to stick; every catastrophic thought, every scary feeling, every bad “what if” or “if only” – we are like fly paper for those thoughts and feelings! But, unfortunately, our wise, rational minds are co-opted by our mis-firing fight/flight/freeze and danger control center leaving us feeling like scared little kids asking “are we home yet?” four thousand times on a drive home after a long day.
